This exhibit commemorates the 60th anniversary of the assassination of Medgar Wiley Evers. The exhibit features 14 panels that delve into the life and legacy of Medgar Evers, a significant civil rights activist in Mississippi. Evers served as the field secretary for the Mississippi NAACP, where he investigated cases of racial violence, organized local NAACP branch offices, and registered voters. His work brought national attention to the social and political issues in the state. Tragically, Evers was assassinated on June 12, 1963, at his Jackson home. Despite constant threats to his life, Evers fought tirelessly for justice, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the ongoing fight for civil rights.

About The Author
Kwantrell Green is an accomplished Black Author, devoted father and husband, as well as a dedicated community advocate. As a mentor, he is deeply committed to empowering the next generation. Kwantrell believes in the potential of today’s youth and strives to inspire young Black children to document and celebrate their own history within their communities. His vision is to nurture and equip young storytellers by ensuring their voices and experiences are recognized and remembered. Kwantrell Green fosters a mission to empower others while making a lasting difference in the lives of young Black people. Kwantrell is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity that embodies the spirit of young black men.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm OS-Sit, Stay, Read! program Ocean Springs Library (525 Dewey Ave, Ocean Springs, MS, United States) You are invited to bring your children to the Ocean Springs Municipal Library on the last Saturday of the month to participate in our Sit, Stay, Read! program. This program, sponsored by Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi, allows children to read to licensed therapy dogs and is designed to boost confidence in early and young readers. The program will run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting in September. Remember to sign up at least one day before the program by calling or visiting the library. We look forward to seeing you there!
