Teen Science Café: Prescribed Burns for Land Management
Ocean Springs, MS _The Ocean Springs Public Library is excited to announce a unique and educational opportunity for local teens: the Teen Science Café featuring Prescribed Burns for Land Management. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Senior Center, located directly behind the Ocean Springs Library.
The evening will feature Dr. Jonathan Pitchford, Stewardship Coordinator at Grand Bay Estuarine Research Reserve, who will discuss the science behind wildland fires and fire ecology. Dr. Pitchford will give an in-depth presentation on the role of prescribed burns in land management before demonstrating the process of a controlled burn.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for pizza and socializing, sponsored by Marco’s Pizza. The presentation will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. The event is designed for teens and is free to attend, with pizza and refreshments provided.
This event offers an incredible learning experience about the ecological benefits of fire management and its importance in preserving natural habitats.

Kids Stuffed Animal Hospital
Ocean Springs, MS – Is your child’s favorite stuffed animal feeling a little under the weather? Bring them to the Kids’ Stuffed Animal Hospital at the Ina Thompson Moss Point Library on Saturday, March 15, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM! 🩺🐻 Dr. Zoe Dudiak and other veterinarians from Bienville Animal Medical Center will be on hand to give plush patients a thorough check-up—testing reflexes, administering pretend inoculations, measuring height and weight, and even performing eye exams! This fun and interactive event helps children learn about caring for pets in a hands-on way. Spaces are limited, so be sure to sign up for an appointment by calling the library or visiting the circulation desk. A parent or guardian must accompany each child. Don’t miss this chance for a cuddly check-up experience!
Ocean Springs Municipal Library Hosts Fun with Food Class for 4th-6th Graders
Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library is excited to announce a Fun with Food Class for 4th-6th graders from March 17th to March 19th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This interactive and educational event, sponsored by Mississippi State University Extension Services, offers an exciting opportunity for children to learn about cooking, nutrition, and life skills in a fun and engaging environment.
What to Expect: Participants will explore the art of cooking while developing important skills such as math, science, reading, and time management. The activities are designed to teach children how food is grown, the importance of kitchen safety, and how to follow recipes while measuring ingredients. In addition to cooking, the class will include physical activities and games to keep participants engaged and active.
Activities include:
• Tasting new foods and learning about flavors
• Understanding how food is grown on the farm
• Using math skills to measure ingredients
• Practicing kitchen safety
• Playing games and engaging in physical activities

Monthly Event for Gamers of All Ages
Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library invites all gamers to join us for the Ocean Springs Gaming Club, held on the third Wednesday of every month from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Whether you’re a fan of Warhammer, Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Dungeons and Dragons, or just looking for some fun board games and video game tournaments, this event has something for everyone!
Bring your own gear or use our library’s collection and get ready for an exciting gaming experience. Snacks and drinks will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Ocean Springs Municipal Library. It’s a great way to meet new people, have fun, and show off your gaming skills!

Sit, Stay and Read!
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __You are invited to bring your children to the Ocean Springs Municipal Library on the last Saturday of the month to participate in our “Sit, Stay, Read!” program. This program, sponsored by Visiting Pet Teams of South Mississippi, allows children to read to licensed therapy dogs and is designed to boost confidence in early and young readers. The program will run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting in September. Remember to sign up at least one day before the program by calling or visiting the library. We look forward to seeing you there!
Drawing Club for Tweens and Teens
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __The Ocean Springs Municipal Library is hosting a Drawing Club for Tweens and Teens. The club will meet every other week from February 28th to April 24th, and then on specific dates between May and September. The meetings will take place from 4:15 to 6:15 pm.
The Drawing Club is a great opportunity for tweens and teens who want to learn how to draw, show off their art, help others learn, and make new friends! Some supplies will be provided, but you are more than welcome to bring your own. The specific dates for the club meetings are as follows:
– May 8th, May 22nd, June 5th, June 19th, July 3rd, July 17th, July 31st, August 14th, August 28th, September 11th. You can attend for the whole duration of the meeting or arrive later. Join us and let’s have fun together!
Junior Mystery Club
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ If you’re a junior who loves to solve mysteries and think outside the box, Ocean Springs Municipal Library’s Junior Mystery Club might be perfect for you! The club meets every other Thursday from 5:00-6:00, and they have meetings scheduled throughout the year, including May 2nd, May 16th, May 30th, and many more. It sounds like a great opportunity to meet other kids who share your interests and have some fun solving mysteries together.
All-Abilities Story Time
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Are you looking for a fun and engaging activity to participate in? Join us at Ocean Springs Municipal Library every third Monday at 10 for All Abilities Story Time! Our story time is designed for adults who are differently abled but is open to all ages. You won’t want to miss out on the fun and engaging stories that we have lined up, paired with a sensory-filled craft. Our program is inclusive, so everyone is welcome to join us.
Cinema Club
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ Ocean Springs Municipal Library Cinema Club First Saturdays, 1:00-2:00. Similar to our Book Club, the Ocean Springs Municipal Library’s Cinema Club will gather each month to discuss a selected movie. Each month, a different movie will be assigned for the group to watch. Join Andrew to delve into the dynamics of this visual art form.
Gaming Club
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library Gaming Club meets every third Saturday of the month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The club features tabletop games, video game tournaments, card games, and more. You can bring your own games or use the ones provided. Snacks and drinks will be available, courtesy of the Friends of The Ocean Springs Municipal Library.
Memory Cafe for Seniors
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ The Ocean Springs Municipal Library has collaborated with the Ocean Springs Senior Center to organize a monthly Memory Cafe for seniors. The cafe will occur on the first Monday of each month at 9:30 AM, and attendees will meet at the Senior Center at 515 Washington Ave. During the cafe, participants will discuss various topics, including popular dates, events, and personal memories. To make the event more fun, a trivia round with prizes will be held at the end of each session.
Adult Watercolor Class
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __Ocean Springs Municipal Library is pleased to announce its upcoming adult program – Watercolor Class. This class will be held every second Monday at 10 AM. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, you are welcome to join us for this monthly art class. Marianne, our experienced instructor, will teach a short lesson each month. Puzzle Competition
OCEAN SPRINGS, MS __ There is a puzzle competition at the Ocean Springs Municipal Library located at 525 Dewey Ave on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. There’s no need to pay for admission. Patrons will be divided into four groups and given a specific amount of time to complete a jigsaw puzzle. The first team to finish wins the “Golden Innie” trophy made by our 3D printer.
