Ocean Springs Municipal Library and Walter Anderson Museum of Art Announce Mural Competition
Ocean Springs, MS – The Ocean Springs Municipal Library, in partnership with the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, is thrilled to announce a mural competition to enhance the newly renovated patio at the library.
Artists are invited to submit samples of their past work along with a mural concept responding to the theme, “The Magic of Literacy and the Power of Place.” This prompt encourages artists to draw inspiration from storytelling and literary traditions across the world, intertwined with the unique culture and geography of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Murals can feature a mix of illustration, text, and design elements, reminiscent of the storytelling found in Walter Anderson’s murals and his classic illustrations, such as those for “Alice in Wonderland.”
Submissions are due by October 1, 2024. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of jurors from the community and the two partnering institutions. Artists should submit their work via email to osmgr@jgrls.org and are encouraged to call the library to confirm receipt of their submission.
While some artists may choose to draw on Walter Anderson’s iconic imagery, the panel welcomes diverse interpretations and unique styles.
This initiative is generously supported by the Friends of the Ocean Springs Municipal Library.
