Lucedale, MS – The Lucedale-George County Public Library invites families to Story Time every Tuesday at 10 a.m.!  Perfect for young children and their caregivers, each lively session features captivating stories, cheerful songs, and interactive activities that encourage creativity, spark imagination, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.  Bring your little ones, make new friends, and share the joy of books together at your community library!

Lucedale, MS – Say “aloha” to a new school year in the most fun and festive way! The Lucedale-George County Public Library invites families of all ages to a Back-to-School Luau on Saturday, August 2 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Get ready for a day filled with games, crafts, snacks, prizes, and tropical vibes! This free community event is a great way to celebrate the end of summer and gear up for the school year ahead.

Highlights include:

  • Fun games & hands-on crafts
  • Tropical-themed snacks
  • Prize giveaways throughout the day
  • A special raffle drawing held during the luau!

A Community Conversation on Media Literacy

Lucedale, MS – In a world filled with information, how do you know what’s true? Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Monday, August 4 at 4:00 PM for “Ask Me: What is True?”—an interactive program designed to help you think critically about the news and media you encounter every day.

Presented in partnership with the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center at the University of Southern Mississippi, this engaging session will teach participants how to:

  • Identify misinformation and disinformation
  • Evaluate sources critically
  • Understand how false information affects our community and democracy

Led by Joshua Wilson, community liaison for the Roy Howard Center and instructor in the USM School of Media and Communication, this program is ideal for teens, adults, and anyone who wants to be a more informed media consumer.  Presented by the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center | Scripps Howard Foundation.

Emergency Preparedness for Kids!

Lucedale, MS – Safety starts with knowledge! Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Thursday, August 7 at 3:30 PM for “Prepare with Pedro,” a fun and interactive program presented in partnership with the American Red Cross.

Led by Mrs. Kellie, this engaging session will teach young learners how to be prepared and act during emergencies through stories, games, and hands-on activities.  This program is designed for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students, but all elementary-aged children are welcome to attend and learn.  Presented in collaboration with the American Red Cross.

Lucedale-George County Public Library Hosts Reverse Coloring Art Program for Teens

Lucedale, MS – Get ready to flip the script on traditional coloring! Teens are invited to the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Thursday, August 14 at 4:00 PM for a creative Reverse Coloring program designed just for ages 12 and up.

In this artistic twist, participants will paint vibrant watercolor backgrounds and then draw unique designs on top, creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces. No experience is needed, just bring your imagination!  All supplies are provided.  Open to teens ages 12 and older.

Lucedale, MS – Calling all food lovers! Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Thursday, August 21 at 1:00 PM for our next Cookbook Club—and this time, it’s potluck style!

This month, we’re diving into Half Baked Harvest: Recipes for Balanced, Flexible, Feel-Good Meals Every Day by bestselling author Tieghan Gerard. Browse the cookbook at the Circulation Desk, pick a recipe that inspires you, and prepare your dish at home.

Then bring your culinary creation to our gathering to share, taste, and talk about what worked (or didn’t!). It’s a fun, flavorful way to try new recipes, meet fellow foodies, and enjoy a little community cooking. Cookbook available at the Circulation Desk.

Create Your Own Summer Memory Book at Lucedale-George County Public Library

Lucedale, MS – Relive your favorite summer memories and turn them into a keepsake to cherish! Join us at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Thursday, August 28 at 4:00 PM for a special “Create Your Own Summer Memory Book” craft session.

This relaxing, hands-on program is perfect for adults and older children who enjoy journaling, scrapbooking, or creative reflection. You’ll design your very own memory book filled with photos, keepsakes, and personal highlights from the summer season.

Please bring:

  • Printed photos or souvenirs (ticket stubs, brochures, receipts, printed social media posts)
  • Fun memories like favorite songs, recipes, reads, and moments.

Memory books and other supplies will be provided. Open to all ages—children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Paint & Sign at Lucedale-George County Public Library – A Family Event with Signing Our Future

Lucedale, MS – Discover the beauty of American Sign Language (ASL) through art at the Lucedale-George County Public Library on Saturday, August 30 at 10:00 AM!

In partnership with Signing Our Future, this special Paint & Sign program offers families the chance to learn basic ASL while creating an ASL-themed painting masterpiece. It’s a fun and engaging way to explore Deaf culture, language, and creativity, all in one inspiring morning.  No prior art or signing experience needed—just bring your imagination and a willingness to learn.  Great for all ages!  Presented in partnership with Signing Our Future: Empowering Families Through ASL and Deaf Culture.
