PASCAGOULA, MS — East Central Public Library invites the community to explore the fascinating world of animal bone collecting during a special summer program, From the Boneyard, featuring guest speaker Gabrielle Lovelace, on June 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
As part of the library’s Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program, guests will get an up-close look at unique animal skulls and bones while learning about personal collecting, preservation, and the stories these fascinating specimens can tell. East Central Public Library Invites Families to “Unearth a Story” This Summer
Hurley, MS — East Central Public Library is excited to announce its 2026 Summer Library Program, “Unearth a Story,” a free, fun-filled series of events designed especially for elementary students and families.
Registration opens May 30, and programs will begin June 8, with weekly events held Mondays at 2:00 p.m. for elementary students. In addition, preschool programs will take place on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
This summer’s theme encourages children to dig into books, discover new ideas, and explore the world around them through exciting, hands-on experiences. Featured programs include:
- June 8: Addie May’s Spotlight Elite Dance Company – Dino Dance
- June 15: “A Story, A Song” – Interactive Storytelling
- June 22: Mississippi Museum of Natural Science with Conservation Educator Meaghan Huseman
- June 29: Freedom Ranch Wildlife Center
All programs are free of charge, and participants can enjoy reading books and earning prizes throughout the summer.

PASCAGOULA, MS — East Central Public Library is inviting teens ages 12–17 to discover creativity, history, science, and hands-on fun this summer with its Unearth Your Stories series, held Mondays at 3:00 PM throughout June.
As part of the library’s Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program, teens can participate in a variety of engaging activities designed to inspire imagination and self-expression:
- June 8 – Worry Worms: Learn beginner crochet techniques while creating adorable stress-relief worms. No experience needed.
- June 15 – Bioplastic Suncatchers: Use cornstarch and natural materials to craft colorful whimsical décor.
- June 22 – Paleography Pals: Explore writing through history, from ancient cuneiform to creative junk journaling.
- June 29 – Clear as Mud: Create colorful mud paint to decorate rocks, clay pots, and more.

Designed for ages 12–17, this beginner-friendly workshop will teach participants how to crochet adorable “worry worms” — soft, squirmy stress relievers that are both fun to make and comforting to keep. No crochet experience is necessary, making this the perfect opportunity for teens to try a new creative skill in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

East Central Public Library Invites Families to Join “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” Challenge
HURLEY, MS – The East Central Public Library is excited to launch the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading in young children. This free, year-round challenge encourages families to read together and track their progress—one book at a time.
The program is open to children from birth to age 5. Even repeated books count, and families can earn a small prize for every 100 books read. After reaching the 1,000-book milestone, participants will receive a special prize to celebrate their achievement.
Sign-ups begin this September at East Central Public Library. “Reading with your child every day builds vocabulary, strengthens bonds, and lays the foundation for future learning,” said Lynn Rainey, branch manager.
