Interlibrary Loans
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service, which tries to obtain from other libraries materials which are not owned by the Jackson-George Library System.
Use the handy order form below
Eligibility
Anyone who has a valid Jackson-George Regional Library card may utilize the ILL service.
Time
Generally, it takes up to 2 weeks or longer to request and receive materials, unless another Mississippi library owns that material. Students should consider their deadlines before ordering, or consult with the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator before ordering.
Fee
The cost is free unless the only library that owns the material charges. In that case, you will be advised and authorization will be needed before further action is taken.
Terms
The lending term is usually 2-3 weeks with a possibility for extension. If an extension is needed, you are asked to request that extension at least 5 days before the due date. Not all extensions are given. In that case, we will immediately request that same title for you from a different lender and you will be required to return the item immediately.
When your material has arrived, you will be notified either by phone or mail and we ask that you pick up the material promptly. Any material left on the pick-up shelf for more than 5 working days will be considered no longer needed and therefore returned.
Restrictions
- The item must be on the market at least six months to be ordered through ILL.
- Material may be recalled and must be returned immediately.
- Genealogical materials are difficult to find and may take considerably longer.
- Reference, rare and college textbooks are not available.
- Dissertations, microfilm and thesis are often restricted from borrowing.
- After checkout, all lost and/or damaged material is the patron’s responsibility and reparations must be made.
Articles
Magazine and journal articles are included in the ILL service. We always try for free services, but at times the lending library will charge 20 cents per page. If an article is asked for by FAX, this fee will be considerably higher. The time factor for articles is usually faster.
Audio-Visual
The number of libraries willing to lend audio-visual (A-V) material is small, but growing. Feature films (movies) can be obtained, but not as successfully as historical, how-to, travel, etc. The lending time is considerably shorter on A-V material, usually one week, with no renewals.
