Computer Classes at Branch Libraries

Registration Procedures

Registration for free computer classes will be conducted on a week by week basis. A valid JGRLS library card is required at class time. Registration will open on Monday each week at 9:00 a.m. for the following week classes (unless it is a holiday). Customers who wish to take a course may register in person at the Branch where the class will be held or by calling the phone number listed for each branch.

Computer Basics

Get hands-on practice with the very basics of computer use: computer parts, the mouse, and keyboard. This class is best for those who are brand new to computers.  No prior experience required

Internet Basics

This is an introductory class on the internet. Topics include web browsers, web addresses, navigating websites, search engines, and safety.

Introduction to Microsoft Word
This class is an introduction to Microsoft Word, a program used to create documents such as papers, letters, reports, resumes, and more. Topics include how to get started, edit, format, and save your work.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel

This class is an introduction to Microsoft Excel, a program used to create spreadsheets. Topics include entering data, simple formatting, and basic formulas.

Introduction to PowerPoint

This class is an introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, a program used to create slideshows and presentations. Topics include getting started, adding graphics, and presenting your slideshow.


Gmail Basics 
Gmail is a powerful email service. This class will introduce you to the basics of using Gmail, including composing and sending emails, labeling emails, and more!

E-Reader Drop In Session

Would you like to learn how to download free eBooks to your new Nook, Kindle, i-Pad, Smartphone, tablet, or other device using the library’s downloadable service?  During the Drop-In Session, you will learn how to download the necessary app or software, how to browse, checkout, and download to your device, and how to navigate to the eBook once it is downloaded

Resume Writing 101

One of the most important and intimidating steps in the job search process is writing a solid resume that gets the attention you want and need. Leave this class with a basic understanding of Microsoft Word and how to create a professional resume and cover letter. We will cover types of resumes and resume formatting, so bring your resume information with you. You must have some mouse, typing, and Internet skills in order to take this class.

Keyboarding 101

Are you new to typing or rusty in the fingers? This class will cover basic typing skills and computer keyboard instruction. 

Google 101

“Google it”!  Google is more than a search engine! Need a map?  Want to see a satellite image from anywhere in the world?  What time is it in South Africa? Connect with friends!  Images and videos, books, translations, Google Docs and more!  Go beyond Google’s main page and learn what this powerful search tool has to offer!
