Free Summer Reading registration May 28 at area Libraries
Registration for the 2013 summer reading program begins Tuesday, May 28, at all Jackson-George Regional Library System locations. The reading program for children is designed to help kids discover the pleasure of reading. This year "Dig Into Reading" will let children enjoy a world of adventures and find fun in reading during the summer.
A full schedule of events (download the schedule) will inspire students to be active and interested in reading all summer long. Weekly programs bring dozens of free events right to your neighborhood; puppets, story-times, special guests, prizes, and so much more.
Library programs for each of three age groups will include; pre-school storytime, grade-school programs, and Teen programs.
A reading record is filled out for each child who registers. Each time the child visits the library, the books he or she has read will be recorded on their own reading record. Certificates of completion and prizes will be presented to those who meet reading goals.
When children are free to choose their own reading materials, wonderful things happen. Often children who are resistant to reading books during the school year find a topic of interest and read about things they like over the summer.
Parents of younger children are urged to enroll their preschool children in the Read-To-Me programs and to attend the regular story time activities at the libraries. A wide selection of new picture books are available that parents can select to read to their children.
